Ways to Get a Website

Option 1 - Create Your Own Web Site

  • Most ISP (Internet Service Providers) who provide dial-in access, DSL and Cable access will give you free web space for a personal web site, i. e. Verizon, Earthlink, Pacific Bell, AT&T, etc.. However, you will need to design the web page/site yourself or have someone do it for you. You will also need to know how to upload your pages to their server by using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol Program)
  • Also, take into consideration, that your web site address would be similar to the following:

    http://www.yourispname.net/~user name

Pros - Saves Web Page Designer Cost. You can maintain yourself.

Cons - You will need to get familiar with HTML (language used to design web pages) or learn a software program that will generate a web page for you automatically. Also, time will be spent looking for graphics and creating the page. Business oriented web sites that have lots of traffic, as a rule of thumb will not be given free web space. Your ISP will charge you an additional monthly fee.

Option 2 - Have a Web Site Designer Create Your Site for You

  • You can have a company that creates web sites do it for you. Your Internet Service Provider (the company that provides you with dial-in access to the Internet) will provide the space to store your personal web page for free. However, you will need to know how to upload your pages to their server by using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol Program) or have the web site designer maintain and/or upload the pages for you.
  • Also, take into consideration, that your web site address would be similar to the following:

    http://home.yourispname.net/~user name

Pros - Saves you lots of time in learning HTML and frustration

Cons - Cost of designing web page/site

Option 3 - Your Own Domain Name Site

  • You can sign up with a company that provides web hosting. This would give you the ability to have your own web site address. You can create and maintain your own web pages or have someone do them for you. This type of site is geared specifically for businesses.

Your website address may be, for example:

    http://www.yourbusiness.com

Pros - You will have your own web site address, which will be independent of your ISP.. Can generate forms, unlimited alias email addresses, create a number of web pages, etc. If you decide to change your Internet Service Provider, you will not have to be concerned about losing your web site or changing the name of it.

Cons - pay a monthly fee (usually have to pay in 3 months increments). This payment is in addition to your monthly dial in access fee to your Internet Service Provider. A domain name registration fee (which covers 2 years) is also paid to InterNIC (the organization that would register your domain name).

Option 4 - If You Don't Have Internet Access or a Computer

  • If you don't have a computer or have an ISP (Internet Service Provider), which provides dial in access to the Internet, and you need a web site, you can still have a web site by signing up with a company that provides monthly hosting of web pages. (Web Hosting means a company that has the ability to store your web site/page on the Internet and usually charges a monthly fee). Our company provides these services.  (Click on This Link for Web Hosting Information)
